Stock on hand is only part of the replenishment decision.

A warehouse can have stock today and still face a shortage next week. Another location may have excess, an incoming purchase may arrive too late, or a promotion may create demand that existing stock moves do not yet show. Planners need the timing, location and reason behind a recommendation before deciding whether to buy, transfer or manufacture.

Inventory Replenishment builds a time-based view for each product-location policy. It connects expected demand and supply to projected balances, coverage and safety targets. Planners can inspect why an action was suggested, compare sources and submit it for approval before a draft replenishment document is created.

Turn projected shortages into explainable replenishment decisions

Define the planning policy, trace the projected requirement and control how approved recommendations reach the operational apps.

Build the demand and stock picture

Product-location planning policies. Set the planning horizon, review frequency, safety-stock method, coverage targets and order constraints for each product and destination. Minimum quantities, order multiples and package rules make the recommended quantity fit the planning policy.
Daily, weekly or monthly projections. Review opening stock, demand, incoming supply, safety targets and projected closing balances by time bucket. Available-to-promise, cover, shortage and excess measures help planners identify when a decision is needed.
Explicit forecast and promotion signals. Add forecast, promotion or one-time demand when native movements do not represent the expected requirement. The plan retains forecast consumption alongside operational demand so reviewers can understand what contributes to the projection.
Demand and supply traceability. Use pegging to follow the demand and supply records behind a bucket or recommendation. The calculation keeps its source rationale, helping a planner explain which requirement an action is intended to cover.

Choose and approve the next action

Ranked replenishment sources. Configure transfer locations, approved vendors and manufacturing sources. Inspect the selected source, its rationale and rejected alternatives before deciding how the product-location requirement should be supplied.
Separate planning scenarios. Explore changes to demand inputs without creating operational documents from a scenario. After approval, apply the selected signals to live planning and calculate again before approving live supply actions.
Manager-approved draft supply. A different planning manager approves a recommendation before execution. Supported actions create draft transfers, RFQs or manufacturing orders for the normal Odoo review and confirmation process.
Freshness checks and incremental planning. Recommendations become stale when relevant stock, demand, supply, lot or policy inputs change. Recalculate before execution; the Dirty Item Queue supports incremental planning after an initial full run.

When a promotion threatens stock at a destination warehouse

Example workflow

A planner records an expected promotion as a demand signal and calculates the affected product-location plan. The projection shows the period in which stock falls below the target. The planner follows the demand links, compares a transfer with the configured purchase or manufacturing sources and reviews the chosen recommendation. A different manager approves the live action. If the inputs remain current, execution creates a draft document for the relevant operational team to review.

Define the planning rules

Set product-location policies, safety and coverage targets, order constraints and ranked supply sources. Add demand signals where the expected requirement is not already represented.

Calculate the projection

Run the plan and review stock, demand and supply by time bucket. Focus on shortages, excess and coverage changes that require a planning decision.

Inspect and approve

Follow the demand and supply links and examine the source rationale. Have a different manager approve the proposed live action after the recommendation is reviewed.

Create the draft and continue in Odoo

Execution checks that the recommendation is still current and creates a supported draft supply document. Purchasing, inventory or manufacturing users complete the normal confirmation process.

Install: Add the server module to the configured addons path, refresh Apps and install it with Inventory, Purchase Stock, Manufacturing and Sales Stock.
Configure: Create item-location policies, safety logic, ranked sources and optional demand signals; run a full baseline before using incremental planning.
Operate: Review the projection and pegging, approve only current actions, then create draft supply documents for native users to validate.

Questions before you choose

Does a scenario create purchase or manufacturing orders?

No. Scenario recommendations cannot create operational documents. Approved scenario signals must be applied to live planning and recalculated before live actions can be approved.

Will it automatically change confirmed supply?

It does not silently confirm, cancel, resize or reschedule confirmed supply. The controlled execution path creates supported draft documents for review in the native apps.

Why does a recommendation become stale?

Its underlying inputs changed after calculation. Replanning gives the manager a recommendation based on current stock, demand, supply and policy information before execution.
